John Marrone

It is with immense sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of John (Giovanni) Marrone, on August 22, 2026, at the age of 67, following a valiant battle with cancer.

John was the beloved husband of 31 years to Milena Sejnoha, and the loving father of Lucas (Bailee) and John Francis (Maeva). He was the dear brother of Filomena.

John was the heart and head of his family—a man known for his extraordinary kindness, generosity, and graciousness toward family and friends. He was particularly devoted to caring for and supporting the aging parents on both sides of the family: Casimiro, Adina, Vera, and Roman. His compassion and sense of responsibility touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

John studied Metallurgical Engineering and earned a Master of Business Administration at McGill University in Montreal, the city of his birth. He went on to enjoy an exceptional and varied 35-year career, holding leadership positions across industry, government, and engineering consulting. His career spanned a range of roles and responsibilities, from Development Engineer and Chief Metallurgist, to Director General and Vice President, reflecting his breadth of expertise.

One of the great highlights of John's career was his eight years with the Canadian Space Agency, where he was able to fulfill his lifelong fascination with space. He managed the development of space loads and trained astronauts to conduct scientific experiments aboard the Space Station. He also proudly served as Canada's representative on the European Space Agency Industrial Policy Committee.

John met his beloved wife, Milena, in the carpool they shared while travelling between Montreal and QIT Fer et Titane in Sorel, Quebec. Those long drives sparked a love and friendship that continued to deepen over the next 36 years. Together, they built a beautiful life in Montreal and Ottawa, raised two wonderful sons, and shared countless adventures through their travels for both work and pleasure.

John was deeply proud of his Italian heritage and took great joy in passing that heritage on to his family. He nurtured strong bonds with relatives in Canada and Italy, taught his sons Italian, and became a wonderful cook—sharing his love of food, family, and tradition around the table.

Above all, John was immensely proud of his sons, Lucas and John Francis, and of the remarkable young men they have become. He was equally happy to see them find love and companionship with their partners, Bailee and Maeva. His greatest joy was seeing his family happy and together.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, devotion, curiosity, and family. His love will live on through his sons, Milena, his family and friends, and in the countless lives he touched. He will remain forever in our hearts and in our memories.

The visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Côte-des-Neiges Funeral home, located at 4525 chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC H3V 1E7.

A ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Côte-des-Neiges Funeral home, located at 4525 chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC H3V 1E7.
