It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Katharina (Kathe) Ribicki (nee Straka) on October 18th in Charlevoix at the age of 90 as she was enjoying the wonderful fresh air, colourful fall leaves and breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River during a peaceful walk in nature. Kathe loved going for walks – it was a cherished daily ritual that made her happy and kept her so healthy throughout her lifetime.
Beloved wife of the late Heinrich Ribicki and cherished mother of Richard (late Brigitte) and Michael (Natalie). Kathe is survived by her sister, Traudl (Helmut), and her brother, Ernst (Helga), and many nieces, nephews, and other family members in Europe. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Hans and Joseph, and her grandson, Aidan.
Kathe has lived, worked, and volunteered in Westmount for over 40 years and will be dearly missed by her many, many friends in the community. Kathe was a ray of sunshine to everyone she knew or met on the street. She always greeted everyone with a warm smile on her face and a good word that would inevitably brighten their day.
Kathe was always so thankful for all the friendships she had made throughout the years with neighbours, fellow gardeners from the Westmount Community Garden, members of the Westmount Contactivity Centre, fellow bridge players, exercise class members, meditation class members, art class members, former customers, and, of course, her many, many walking companions.
The family will receive condolences on October 30th between 1PM and 2PM immediately followed by a service in the chapel of the Collins Clarke Funeral Home at 5610 Sherbrooke St. W.
Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, there will be no reception following the funeral service; however, attendees are welcome to remain after the service to share their memories of Kathe.
For those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be streamed online at (https://funeraweb.tv).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
