Miss Margaret Elisabeth Kay FINLAYSON (Finnie) died peacefully in her sleep at the Fulford Residence, Montreal on 2nd November 2020, just after celebrating her 95th birthday.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and by her family. She was a much loved aunt to her nephews and nieces: David, Rosemary, Ian, Shiona, Elisabeth, Mary, Louise, Douglas and Anne; and their own children and their families all living in Scotland, England and Australia.
Margaret was born in Edinburgh in 1925. She trained as a physiotherapist and came to Canada at the age of 21 to work as a community physio in Winnipeg. She used to visit her patients by dogsled. She then worked in Abbotsford, BC. and Fredericton, NB.
She spent the major part of her career in Quebec with the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society. She was a supporter of her professional physio colleagues and was elected President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
She loved golf, curling, travelling, gardening, knitting and embroidery and was famous for her barbecues at her small house in Westmount. She was a member of the Kensington Presbyterian Church for many years and was very active in community affairs.
She spent her later years at the Manoir, Westmount where she made many good friends and enjoyed all the activities. She did her exercises every day but her vision had become very poor and, in February 2020 after a series of falls, she moved to the Fulford Residence where she was looked after with great care by the staff.
On Wednesday 25th November at 3pm, a small funeral service, with full COVID precautions, will be held for Margaret’s friends at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 5610 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montréal, H4A 1W5 (514-342–5310) www.dignitequebec.com
