Marilyn passed away February 16th, 2021 in her 91st year after a short illness and a long, rich life. Her curious mind and artist’s soul will long be remembered by those left behind.
Surviving her loss are Cameron, her husband of 68 years, and children Donald (Susie), Susan, Bruce (Elaine), Ian (Hilary) and Mary Jane (Glen). Missed by grandchildren Robin (Jen), Cassie (John), Emily (Richard), Jake (Amanda), Bronwyn (Colten), William (Jess) and Ainsley as well as great-grandchildren Nora, Anya, Korben, Esmé, Theodore and Arwen. She was predeceased by her parents David and Nellie MacDonald, Auntie Annie Wright, and her sister Janell Bell.
Marilyn was a graduate of The Thomas Moore Institute and up until her 85th year was a guide at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She was a member of the Women’s Art Society of Montreal and the associated studio group for many years.
Marilyn was a member of Mountainside United Church and counted among the congregation many valued friends.
Marilyn was an artist and over the years, through daily practice, produced an astonishing number of beautiful collages that reflected her inner and outer life. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She loved reading, reflecting and “telling about it” to paraphrase Mary Oliver, one of her favourite poets. Marilyn lived by Mary Oliver’s recipe for life “Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell About.”
Marilyn loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited most countries in Europe and the near east, and many cities in Canada and the United States.
Up until the last few years of her life spent her summers in Nova Scotia; in early years with five children in tow and in later years with her husband Cameron in their beloved “Big Bungalow” on the Mira river on Cape Breton Island.
The family will gather March 5th, 2021 at 2 p.m. and invite friends and relatives to join them via internet livestream from Collins, Clarke, MacGillivray, White Funeral Homes (https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/25012) In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to Prospect Belvedere Services Corporation, 4505 Ste.
