Mark Chapnick

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Mark Chapnick à la suite d’une longue lutte contre la dégénérescence corticobasale. Il s’est éteint entouré des membres de sa famille qu’il chérissait plus que tout.

Il laisse dans le deuil sa conjointe Joanne Papineau avec qui il a partagé 34 ans de bonheur et leurs fils, Alexandre, Julien et Guillaume (Camille).

Né à Winnipeg, fils de feu Clarise Chapnick, il laisse dans le deuil son père Allan, son frère Cary et son épouse Sarah, sa belle-mère Jeannine Papineau, ses belles-sœurs Danielle (Andy), Sylvie, et son beau-frère Michel (Maria), ses nièces Maya (Hash), Andrea (Joe), Gillian (Kevin), Sophie (Julien), Valérie, Olivia, ses neveux Simon (Nikki) et Benjamin (Caroline) ainsi que de nombreux membres de sa famille à travers le pays.

Mark a eu une enfance très heureuse à Winnipeg, au Manitoba, où il a développé une passion pour les langues, les sports et les voyages. Après avoir étudié la géographie, il a obtenu un diplôme en droit à l'Université du Manitoba et a brièvement pratiqué le droit criminel. Il a ensuite déménagé à Ottawa où il a fait sa maîtrise à la Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme, il a déménagé à Montréal où il a entrepris une brillante carrière en immobilier commercial au Canada et aux États-Unis. Avec son associé et ami Erminio Forlini, il a fondé BCFN consultants en immobilier corporatif qu'ils ont ensuite vendu à Jones Lang LaSalle. Mark avait une personnalité attachante et était doté d'une grande intelligence, d'une éthique de travail exceptionnelle, et d'une joie de vivre contagieuse.

Mark était un conjoint et un père dévoué et a pris beaucoup de plaisir à entraîner ses fils au hockey et au soccer, sports qu’il pratiquait lui-même avec beaucoup d’énergie. Plus que tout, il aimait passer du temps au chalet, faire de la raquette, du ski de fond, du vélo, de la motoneige ou encore entretenir ses sentiers en forêt. Mark avait l’esprit vif, le sens de l’aventure, des capacités athlétiques surprenantes et une grande curiosité intellectuelle.

La famille tient à exprimer sa gratitude au Dr Franck Paul-Hus et au Dr Carolina Capelle. Sincères remerciements à Hawa et Debbie du soutien à domicile du CLSC ; à Manon et Henelyn d'Amélys et à Brigitte du Centre de jour pour leur bienveillance et le réconfort apporté. Un merci spécial à Erminio Forlini et Yves Bédard pour leur soutien continu.

La famille recevra les condoléances le dimanche 25 septembre de 13 h 30 à 14 h 30 au Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges au 4525, ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal. Une célébration de la vie suivra à 14 h 30. Une diffusion web sera disponible par lien privé.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Mark (Moishe) Chapnick from Corticobasal degeneration syndrome. Mark passed away surrounded by his beloved Joanne and their three sons, Alexandre, Julien and Guillaume (Camille).

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of the late Clarise Chapnick, he is survived by his father Allan, his brother Cary and his wife Sarah Chapnick, his mother-in-law Jeannine Papineau, his sisters-in-law Danielle (Andy), Sylvie and brother-in-law Michel (Maria), his nieces Maya (Hash), Andrea (Joe), Gillian (Kevin), Sophie, Valerie, Olivia, and his nephews Simon (Nikki), Benjamin (Caroline) as well as relatives across the country.

Mark had a very happy childhood in Winnipeg where he developed a lifelong interest for languages, sports, nature and travel. After studying geography, he completed a Law Degree at the University of Manitoba and briefly practiced criminal law. He then moved to Ottawa where he did his master's at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. Upon graduation, he relocated to Montreal where he enjoyed a successful career in commercial real estate throughout Canada and the USA. With his business partner and friend Erminio Forlini, he created BCFN Corporate Real Estate Consultants which they later sold to Jones Lang LaSalle. Mark had the fortunate gift of great intellect, exceptional work ethic, athletic abilities and kindness.

Mark was a devoted husband and father and loved coaching his sons at hockey and soccer, two sports he himself greatly enjoyed playing. More than anything, he loved spending time at the cottage, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, cycling, snowmobiling or clearing trails in the forest. Mark had a clever sense of humour, a curious mind and a passion for adventure.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Franck Paul-Hus and Dr Carolina Capelle, as well as Hawa and Debbie from the CLSC, Manon and Henelyn from Amélys, and Brigitte from the Day Center. Many thanks as well to Erminio Forlini and Yves Bédard for their continued support.

Donations may be made in his name to support research on tauopathies, to the Alzheimer Society or to the McGill University Dementia Education Program.

The family will welcome visitors at Centre Funéraire Cote-des-Neiges at 4525 ch. De la Cote-des-Neiges, Montreal on September 25, 2022 at 1:30 pm. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30 p.m. A webcast will be available with a private link.
