Maria Godina, 89, a generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, left our physical world on August 2, 2026 to be reunited with her beloved husband Joseph Novak. Born on January 25, 1937, in Lendava Slovenia, Maria was a vibrant, artistic, “light up the room” personality with her smile and sense of humour.
Maria was a great, chef worthy home cook, multi talented and enjoyed all sports. At work, she always strived to achieve her goals. She loved the outdoors, and gardening. She was artistic with her flower arrangements, singing in the choir and any arts and crafts.
She is survived by her sisters Antonia Novak and Regina Simonka. Her loving daughters, Betty Balazic, and Katarina Novak. Betty’s husband John Balazic. Betty’s daughter Jenna DiRienzo, and son in law Anthony DiRienzo, grandsons Elliott, Palmer, and granddaughter Oakley. Katarina’s sons: Chad Walcott, daughter in law Emma Parsley, grandson Theodore. Karl Walcott, daughter in law Danielle Brokopp, grandson, Wesley. Daniel Walcott, daughter in law Jacqueline Walcott, granddaughter Etta Soleil. Maria’s memory will live on through her family.
A memorial service to celebrate Maria will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:15 am at Cote-des-Neiges funeral home at 4525 Chem. de la Côte-des-NeigesMontréal, QC H3V 1E7.
