It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Yard Blackett, who left us peacefully on Monday, soon after celebrating her 98th birthday.
Muriel Blackett led a purposeful life. From her birth and early adulthood in Barbados and throughout her life in Canada, she worked hard and creatively to fill the world around her with beauty. She had a deep faith and a sharp mind. She was a formidable cook and an avid gardener. She loved to sing. A talented seamstress in her early days, she also crafted lovely, crocheted tablecloths, knitted quilts and slippers, and needlepoints.
She was deeply loved by her late husband, John Richard Blackett, her children Adelle Blackett (Aristide Nononsi) and Patricia Blackett (Peter Oland), her five grandchildren, Jean-Richard, Baï Daisy, Breanna, Nia and Maxwell, as well as extended family, cherished friends and devoted carers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, from 2 – 5pm, and from 7 – 9pm, and a celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at 11am at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White (5610, rue Sherbrooke O, Montréal, QC H4A 1W5). The burial will follow from 1:30–2:30 pm at the Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges Cemetery (4601, chem. de la Côte des Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fonds Hôpital Ste Anne Hospital Fund Inc. or Union United Church.
