Norma was born in Montreal on June 18, 1948, and passed away peacefully at home in Lachine at the age of 78.
Norma married John Esmond Bruce in 1986. John passed away on May 28, 2013, at the age of 89. Together, they enjoyed frequent trips to Cape Cod and visits to San Francisco to spend time with their dear friends, Victor and Maureen Roth. Norma and John also attended many Gazette social functions and enjoyed dancing at the Royal Canadian Legion in Lachine.
Dancing, reading, and doing crosswords were among Norma’s favourite pastimes.
Norma was the beloved daughter of the late Vera Barrow and sister of the late Wayne Barrow. She was a cherished aunt to her two nephews and cousin to Glen, who lives in Edmonton. She was also a devoted stepmother to Janette Bruce and her spouse, Michael Crouch; Carole Robertson and the late Jay Robertson; and a loving step-grandmother to Michael and his family and to Steven.
Norma was educated at King’s School and Westmount High School, where she participated in the school band. She went on to work at the Westmount Public Library, beginning as a library assistant and later becoming Executive Secretary. She dedicated 30 years of service to the library.
Visitation and Funeral Services:
Visitation will be held at Collins Clarke Funeral Home in NDG, located at 5610 Sherbrooke Street West, on Monday, August 24, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a light lunch.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
Norma will be remembered with love by her family and friends and cherished for the many wonderful memories she leaves behind.
