My sincere condolences to Peters family.

I briefly knew Peter when I moved from the States to Thetford Mines in the mid 60's. I did not know anyone there besides my cousins, nor spoke French, nor did I know how to deal with the cold weather as I had just been living in Hawaii for the last 5 years. But most of all I didn't know how to ice skate! 

Peter took me under his wing and befriended me.He showed me kindness when I really needed it most at the tender age of 14. He practiced my learning French, protected me from some who would tease me for this deficiency. He really showed a willingness to go out of his way to help someone he really didn't know. I will be forever grateful for his friendship and kindness. These actions showed me a how to be generous with my time and mentor others, which I have tried to emulate. 

One last thing, he did end up teaching me how to skate and I even learned how to use a hockey stick ! Thanks Pete.



As a teenager, I always found it hard to fit in. 

When I met Peter, he was a warm and friendly presence that made me feel at home when our family visited his home. 

He was always ready with a word of encouragement, and had a great sense of humor that made me feel at ease almost instantly. 

I remember a camping trip I had the pleasure of going on with him his family. It was one of the highlights of my adolescence. Peter was the 'Captain' and made it an incredible experience for all of us 10+ young ones that were there. He showed me how to cook a steak 'the man's way', how to start a fire, and we had a ball taking silly pictures which I still have to this day.

Peter's influence on me is one of the reasons I try to be a help to teens and youths struggling today. 

Peter is a great example of the impact you can make on someone by just being yourself and reaching out when others need a hand.  

Please be assured that the entire Donovan family are in our prayers during this difficult time. 

May the 'God of all comfort' prove to be your source of peace and calm. 

"Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; 7  and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus." (Phil 4:6,7)
