Bob Sunenblick was my GP and friend for over 20 years.  He loved to engage with his patients over many topics.  He looked after my health very well and it was always an event to have an appt.  with Dr. Bob.    Ever missed.  RIP

Bob contacted me about writing liner notes for some of his Uptown releases.  He liked his annotators to go deep on the subject matter, and that's a great blessing for writers.  Each job was a great opportunity to immerse in the life and work of a set of great musicians: Frank Rosolino and Carl Fontana, Howard McGhee, Jeri Southern, Dizzy Gillespie and Dodo Marmarosa.

I was his patient for 20 years or so, i feel gutted to know he's gone.   no matter what the reason for my visit i always left buoyed when i left, no matter how late.  No matter how late , that didn't matter after you'd seen him, your spirits were lifted.  we'd roll our eyes in the waiting room, but once the appointment began we knew he gave more care and attention than any other gp.  I've never disagreed with someone so completely over politics and yet liked so entirely.  So many jazz stories. A good man that will be missed.


Thank you for all the great music you brought to the world. A lot of it would have been lost if not for you. R.I.P. Robert.

I'll miss our chats that would run on for hours. I always booked the last appointment of the day, we'd spend 10 minutes talking doctor stuff and the next 90 minutes talking politics and music. We agreed on the music, never on the politics.
I referred several friends to your care over the years with the sage  advice to book the last appointment of the day and then I would  wait for the call that would always come after the first visit. 
It always struck me that the patients impatiently rolling their eyes in the waiting room did not realize they were being treated by an old fashioned family style doctor.  You were never in a rush, each patient would have your total attention, even if you did tend to wander off topic from time to time. In this day and age try and find another doctor where the chat is as important as the doctoring. 
Bob, you were a good friend, and an amazing family doctor. I cherish the time we spent together.  The many CD's you've given me over the years are played often.

I was a patient of Dr. Sunenblick. We disagreed about politics ,but there was a human side to this man that I will always be grateful for. I loved it when  we talked about music. The Christmas CD that he produced and gave me has made my family celebrate each Christmas in a special way. I felt that he was as creative as the musicians that he enjoyed and just as fragile in a very human & gifted way. He was sometimes tough to talk to, but there are not many people that I have met that could be as loyal. I think I'll play some Ruby Braff & Ellis Larkens now and simply say " I'll miss you Dr. Sunenblick " & hope Ellis Larkins is playing the song : "Perfume and Rain" for him . He kept me well  & helped me when I really needed it.
