It is with a deep sadness and profound sorrow that the Nag family announces the sudden passing of their beloved Sunil Nag on Monday, August 17th, 2020. As a young boy in Jadavpur (Kolkata), India, Sunil had many big dreams, which, through his determination, took him to London, England in the 1960’s and landed him finally in Brossard (Montreal), Quebec. There, he built an extended family that he loved and loved him. He integrated himself into the community and Canada as a well-respected member and responsible citizen.
Sunil was an architect by profession, and he brought his skills and expertise to many firms including René Menkés at WZMH Architects. One of his proudest and most remarkable accomplishments was designing the Promenades de la Cathedrale in downtown Montreal. Sunil was also especially pleased to work with Frank G. McGrath for many years at the architectural firm, Le Groupe Archifin/Frank G McGrath, with whom he formed a personal and lifelong friendship.
Sunil was a proud member of the Montreal Indian and Bangladeshi Bengali communities and was well-known to anyone and everyone in the community. He felt especially fulfilled providing his guidance and advice to many fellow immigrants and newly-arrived families to Canada from India.
Sunil was famous for his charismatic personality and loved to engage and talk with everyone around him from everyday folks to famous politicians. You would never get away with just a few words with Sunil-da. He was famous for connecting with friends and strangers alike through stories and laughter at length. It is through these thousands and thousands of stories, souvenirs, memories and personal anecdotes that we can always remember him deep in our hearts and souls. Sunil touched the hearts of many by maintaining long-term friendships with many families from Canada, India and all over the world. He was especially devoted and proud of his grandchildren, who he called his “best friends”. Sunil is survived by his caring and dedicated wife, Dolly, his loving sons, Bobby and Sammy, and his adoring grandchildren, Victor and Shonali.
Om Shanti, Om Shanti, Om Shanti
