Angela Gerardi Spellman was born in rural Oklahoma 96 years ago. She studied nursing at the St. Edward’s Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Smith, Arkansas and became a Registered Nurse in 1945. During her time at St. Edward’s, Angela was also a Cadet Nurse but was not called to active duty because the war ended almost immediately after she became an R.N.
Angela worked as an R.N. for many decades, mostly at the VA. She began at the Tucson VA, spent many years at the Bronx VA, and then her final year before retirement at the Montrose VA.
Angela gave of herself to everyone. She began by giving of herself to her two sick younger brothers, then patients, then her husband (especially after his injuries on the railroad), and her son. She gave and gave to others all her life.
Angela is survived by her husband of 66 years, David; son David (Cynthia); grandson Christopher (Cassandra); and great-grandchildren Mary, Peter, Therese, and John.
