Eileen S. Price (née Clifford), 83, went home to the Lord peacefully on February 26, 2020. Born April 10, 1936, in Yorkers, New York, to James Clifford of Killorglin, Co. Kerry, and Ellen Clifford (née Derivan) of Yonkers, New York, proprietors of Clifford’s Grocery on Riverdale Avenue. Eileen graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1949 and from Commerce High School in 1953 earning honors and rewards for merit along the way. Her Senior High School yearbook cites her ambition “to take a trip to Ireland.” Following her high school graduation, Eileen went to work for Metropolitan Life in New York City. She soon met her future husband, Joseph M. Price from Dublin, Ireland, who had become a frequent patron of Clifford’s Grocery. On June 8, 1958, they were married at St. Mary's Church, Yonkers, NY. The couple lived in Yonkers until moving to Montrose, NY, where they raised six children with an emphasis on academics, sports, and song and dance, seeing all graduate college. Eileen returned to working full time in the 1980s for the Westchester Medical Center, receiving a pension for more than 15 years of service upon her retirement in 1997.
Eileen was a faithful parishioner of St Patrick’s Parish in Verplanck, an active participant in the AOH Ladies Auxiliary (Div. 18), a frequent volunteer and a supportive Mother and Grandmother. A strong and independent woman, she was always ready to pitch in for Family and Friends. She enjoyed frequent trips to Ireland with her Husband and Family and became interested in genealogy, which blossomed into a full-time passion that she pursued for more than 20 years. She has passed on her love of family lore and pride of heritage to her children and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Alyce Price of Yonkers, NY; brother-in-law Walter Bilz of Park Ridge, NJ; brother-in-law Patrick Fergus of Yonkers, NY; son Michael (Claudia) of Natick, MA; son Matthew (Mary Ann) of Ashburn, VA; daughter Maureen (Carl Wesolowski) of Milton, GA; daughter Una (Darryl Smith) of Medfield, MA; son John of Irvington, NY; and daughter Nora (Mark Nolan) of Northport, NY, as well as 18 grandchildren and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews whom she cherished with all her heart. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph M. Price; sisters Margaret (Peggy) Reilly and Patricia Bilz; brother-in-law Francis Reilly of Yonkers, NY, and brother-in-law William Price of Yonkers, NY. May all the departed rest in peace, Amen. May her soul be on God's right hand. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Friday, February 28, 2020, from 3PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 29th at St. Christopher's Church in Buchanan, NY.
