

Vincent J Sorano, a longtime resident of Montrose, passed away on September 26, 2023. He was 99. Vincent was born on August 22, 1924 in Peekskill, NY to the late Anthony and Freda (Russo) Sorano. The recipient of six combat metals, Vincent served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 76-year honorary member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 279, formerly known as Local 11, a member of Captain Oliver C. Chase Jr. American Legion Post 274 in Peekskill and a life-time member of Columbia Hose in Peekskill.
He worked for many years as a master carpenter and taught many apprentices. An avid New York Yankee fan, he enjoyed baseball, yardwork, reading, cooking and spending time with his granddaughters cooking, having fun at the shore and sleepovers at Grandpa’s. He was, and will always be, an inspiration to all who have known him. Vincent was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family and friends, and for many he met along the way.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Richard) Fay, his son Vincent J. Sorano Jr., his granddaughters Meredith (Joey) Acosta and Deidre Fay, his great grandchildren Layla and Julian, his brother Anthony Sorano, brother-in-law John Donohue, his sister-in-law Carolyn Donahue, and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Alice (Donahue) Sorano.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 2 from 10:30-11:30am at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, October 2 at 12 noon at St. Patrick’s Church, 240 11th St, Verplanck, NY 10596. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 1055 Oregon Rd, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Vincent’s honor at Boys Town.
