Brenda Jean Hunt was born April 5, 1948, in Boonville, Indiana to Norma Jean Brown Hunt and Leevern Jacob Hunt. She was the firstborn of 7 children. She attended Primary School there until 1959 when the family moved to California.
Brenda was baptized by immersion, along with Sally, at Norwalk Foursquare Church in 1960, officiated by her cousin, Gilbert Kelly of Indiana.
In 1966 Brenda graduated from Paramount HS where, as a member of the HS debate team, she won multiple trophies, including at Statewide Tournaments.
Brenda studied at El Cerritos Community College and Compton College. She completed training and worked as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician at Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, CA. She went on to study at Mary Grove College and United Theological Seminary.
In the 1970’s, Brenda became a member of the newly-founded Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches in Los Angeles, where she was licensed as clergy and served on staff at the Mother Church. Ordained by UFMCC in 1980, Brenda pastored MCC congregations in Minneapolis, St Paul, Detroit, Baton Rouge, Fort Worth, and Windsor, Canada. She also served as Great Lakes District Coordinator and on the Clergy Credentials and Concerns Committee for the denomination.
After retiring - more than once - she continued her ministry at First Congregational Church of Perris, CA and Menifee UCC.
Brenda was a lifelong learner, a voracious reader and loved to write. She loved traveling, especially to Scotland and Ireland, and was proud to be from the Gunn Clan. So much so, that she even learned to play the bagpipes! Celtic images and symbols filled her artwork.
From early childhood Brenda advocated for others. As an adult, that commitment only increased and she was a fierce activist for Civil and Human Rights for All Persons.
Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Norma and Bob Bartleson, sisters, Sharon Hunt and Dixie Neal, and brother, Dale Hunt.
Brenda is survived by her wife, Teri Trombley (and her children and grandchildren)
Her Aunt Helen Scherzinger, her siblings: Sally Scott (Richard), Mike Hunt, Teri German (Tom), Diane Ramey, and numerous cousins
A multitude of Favorite Nephews and Nieces
And Great Nephews and Nieces and great-great nephews and nieces!
