Cherelyn “Cherie” D. Turner, beloved daughter of Murray H. Jordan, and the late Wilma Marie Landry, departed this world, to return back to her heavenly father, on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at her residence. She was 58 years of age.
Cherie was born in Benning, Georgia March 23, 1967. She’s was a native of Donaldsonville LA, and a resident of Morgan City LA. She was the fourth child of six children. A graduate of Morgan City High School Class of “85”. Cherie made a lot of friends. She was on the newspaper committee in High School, and made things fun and funny whenever there was an article to be written.
She was raised in Church together with her grandmother Louise and mother Wilma. She was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
Cherie’s Mother and family moved to Morgan City Louisiana in the early 80’s. During that transition they joined New Zorah Baptist Church. As she and her sibling became of age, they went to different churches, but Cherie never left her home church New Zorah Baptist Church. She devoted herself to the ministry as a teacher’s aide, and a member of the Home Mission Dept.
Cherie loved reading her bible faithfully, going to church, prayer meeting, listening to old school gospel that ministered to her soul in return becoming peaceful moments of worship, and watching her Madea movies laughing out loud like she was at the movies even though she was alone in her bedroom. Cherie loved what she and her Big Sissy Lydia would call Girls Trips, but it was only an out-of-town doctor’s appointment, Lydia would try to make it fun.
Cherie had a strange relationship with her siblings knowing that she loved each of them dearly in her own way, and she would do anything for them. She loved teasing her big brother Johnathan and her big sister Lydia when it was football season, especially when those Cowboys lost. She would call them and ask if they were alright after their lost, laugh real loud then hang up the phone. Then there is the big brother Marvin that she called baby brother, as if he wasn’t older than her, you see they had their own thing going, because she thought they were special being born in the same month. Now, there is the middle child Melanie that she thought she had to take care of and protect her all of her life. Wait a minute there’s still the baby girl Marya, her twin, that’s a whole different ball game. My My those two where always at each other’s throat, but let someone do either of them anything and the other was coming at you for mistreating their sibling. Cherie had several other siblings (Kevin, Lil Murray, Shane, and Cameron) that lived out of town that she loved just as much, and she kept in touch with them periodically.
On December 3, 1985 was one magical day for Cherie, this is the day she gave birth to the Love of Her life Alfred Joan’ Turner, from the moment she held him she felt nothing but pure love. Her years of being a parent got better as Alfred got older. Cherie gave the best of herself to her son. She cherished and loved him dearly. She made sure her son wanted for nothing, even as an adult child she still gave and gave her best to him.
Cherie had so much love to give, that she showed a lot of that extra love towards all of her nieces and nephews, along with her great nieces and nephews whom she helped to rear several of them.
Cherie has this one particular nephew she called TT that was always checking on her, because he acted as if he was her dad. He would always question her T’ Cherie did you eat today…. T did you take your medicine…. T do you have any doctor’s appointments…. T where are you going today. Do you need anything T, her response most of the time was No TT, but thank you. Before he left, he’d always double check with her, upon leaving he would always say Love you Tee, and that would put a big smile on her face. There is also one of her great nieces that she helped to rear she called “Peanut Butter”, whom she gave the best of herself too. The Lord knows Cherie had that young lady so spoil from an infant to this day.
Cherie had a special bond with all of her nieces, nephew, great nieces and great nephews as well. She loved spoiling them, and making them feel special. Before Cherie became that awesome aunt, mother, great aunt, great great aunt she had a very special bond with the Mustiful Family, a family that loved her as their own.
Cherie leaves to cherish her memories, her dad, Murray H. Jordan of Donaldsonville, LA; her son, Alfred Jaon Turner of Morgan City, LA; five brothers, Johnathan C. Francis of Berwick, LA., and Marvin (Veronica Walker) Francis Sr. of Opelousas, LA, Kevin Jackson of Chicago, Il, Murray Walker of Donaldsonville, LA, and Shane Jordan of New Orleans, LA; four sisters, Lydia Francis Bastien and Melanie Francis Randle both of Morgan City, LA, Marya Landry of New Iberia, LA, and Cameron Jordan of Donaldsonville, LA; three godchildren, Theodore Francis, Andrew Francis, Sr. and Ronashia “Peanut Butter” Winslow; twelve nieces, twelve nephews, forty-six great nieces, twenty-seven great nephews, one great great niece, and two great great nephews, along with a host of friends and relatives.
