

With our heavy hearts, our beloved and treasured love one, Charles Clifford McLean, Jr. was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Charles was born the son of the late Charlie Clifford McLean, Sr. and Merzie Hylemon McLean on November 19, 1956 in Caldwell County.
After 22 1/2 years of honorable service to his country, Charles retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of MSG. He was proud to have served his country, and to have raised a military family. He touched so many lives and enjoyed helping others. Charles was a mentor to his soldiers. He loved to make his family laugh by telling jokes. He enjoyed grilling, gardening, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Charles will be greatly missed, until we meet again.
Along with his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; a son, Dwayne Christopher McLean; and a brother, Randy Leslie McLean.
Those left behind to cherish Charles’ memory include his beloved wife of 43 years, Judy Milligan McLean of the home; two sons, Brian James McLean of the home and Philip Matthew McLean and his wife Faith of Morganton; a granddaughter, Haley Gail McLean; two grandsons, Isaac Matthew McLean and Aiden Joshua McLean; and two sisters, Carol Anderson and her husband Alex and Cathy Grantt and her husband Steve, both of Morganton. Charles also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full Army Funeral Honors.
