Dorothy Lee Harris

Mrs. Dorothy Michaels Harris, 80, of 1640 Goodman Lake Road, Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 26, 2011. Born in Burke County on August 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Eva P. Michaels. She loved her husband, her family and friends, her church, and above all, the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of the Morganton Baptist Church (formerly Tabernacle Baptist Church), where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She also taught 3K for many years at Tabernacle Christian School.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, William A. “Buddy” Harris;

two daughters, Dixie Melton and husband, Gary, of Pensacola, FL and Christina Keller and husband, Roy, of Morganton;

a son, Michael Harris and wife, Janette, of Morganton;

She was affectionately known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren, Joseph Melton, Benjamin Melton and wife, Amanda, Jason Keller, Julie Williams, Andrew Harris and wife, Rachel, Faith Erickson and husband, Jeremy and Sharon Keller.

She also has 7 great grandchildren, Carolina and Wesley Keller, Eva, Aletheia, and Emerald Harris, Reily McIver and Kylee Joy Erickson;

Surviving siblings are J.D. Michaels, Virgil Michaels, Frances Hawkins, Rex Michaels, Barbara Childers, Theresa Howie and Kenneth Michaels.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 29, 2011, at the Morganton Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Qurollo officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
