Hazel Marie Clarke

Hazel Marie Greene Clarke, age 90, of Morganton Rose up to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday, April 05, 2018. Hazel was born on March 18, 1928 in Beckley, Wv. To the late John Webb Greene and Laura Cornelia Oakes Greene.

When Hazel was 3 months old, the family moved to Avery County NC where she spent her childhood and teenage years. In 1947 she married Wayne Parker Clarke and they lived happily for 46 years until his death in 1993.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel is preceded in death by her son, Terry Wayne Clarke; brothers, Robert, Fred, and Luther Greene; sister, Florence Barrier; and son in law, Abner C. Withers, Sr.

Mrs. Clarke first started work at Broughton Hospital at age 18, in the Dietary Dept. She continued her work at Western Carolina Center in dietary from opening day in 1963 until her retirement in 1990. She loved celebrating holidays with big family meals, having her children, grandchildren and great grands gathered around the table.

Hazel is survived by those that called her mom/mama; daughters, Lynn Clarke Withers of Morganton; Pamela Clarke Pritchard (Randy) of Glen Alpine NC.

Those who called her mawmaw; Jay and April Williams of Lenoir, Jill Williams of Taylorsville, Jerry and Oana Pierce of Columbia SC, Samuel Clarke of Cheyenne Wy., Dru and Megan Clarke Nelson, both of Cheyenne Wy. Rena and Abner Wither, Jr.of Raritan NJ, and Paul Withers of Victoria Texas. In Addition Hazel is also survived by a sister in law, Edna Clarke Watts of Morganton, and a former daughter in law Carol Witters Clarke of Cheyenne Wyoming.

Great Grand Children; Bailey and Kelly Smith, Hannah Williams, Eli Williams all of Morganton. Kenneth and Aylin Zambrana of Statesville NC. Ben and Amy Zambrana of Orlando Fl. Emily and Abner Withers III Both of Raritan NJ. Grace Withers, John Withers and Nathan Withers all of Victoria Texas. Alex and Jolie Pierce of Columbia SC. Braylen Nelson, Cheyenne and Brantley Nelson due to arrive July 2018.

Hazel was blessed to have great, great grandchildren; Adaline Hart of Morganton, Ava Zambrana of Statesville, and Vanessa Zambrana of FL. Due to arrive in June 2018.
