John "Johnny" Henry Bumgarner

John "Johnny" Henry Bumgarner, age 77, of Morganton, the beloved husband of over 57 years to Beverly, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. John was born the son of the late Frank Monroe Bumgarner and Mary Lovena Benton Bumgarner on February 16, 1947, in Burke County. in NC.

Along with his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by two sisters, Odell Foss and Mildred Gates, and two brothers, Eli Bumgarner and Robert Bumgarner.

Those left behind to cherish Johnny's memory include his wife, Beverly Bumgarner; two daughters, Pamela Anthony (Mark) and Pat Matthews (Farrell); four grandchildren, Kristin Anthony, Tyler Anthony, Stephanie Randall (Matthew) and Brooke Matthews; a great granddaughter, Olivia Randall; a great grandson, Nathan (due in November); and a sister, Betty McKee. Johnny is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Johnny was a loving husband and father. His favorite times were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. His hobbies were farming and his love of mules. He spent his life working and retired from the Furniture Industry. Johnny was employed with the Drexel Heritage Plant #6 for over 35 years. He talked about all his friends he met throughout the years at the Drexel factory all the time.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Sunday July 28, 2024 at Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton. A "Celebration of Johnny's Life" will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home's chapel with the Rev. Michah Piercy officiating. Johnny will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton.
