Ruby Catherine Epley

Ruby was born in Shelby, NC on April 14, 1939 to the late Kelly and Blanch Smith. She was a member of Lake James Baptist Church and was married to the late Jay Allen Epley, who preceded her in death in 1998. Ruby worked at Cutrite Furniture for many years prior to her retirement. Ruby loved to play Bingo and was an avid NASCAR fan. Most of all, Ruby loved the Lord and her family. Many fond memories remain of the time she spent with her sisters and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruby was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee Epley; and four sisters, Edna Sinclair, Rosa Lee Smith, Evelyn Jordan, and Mozelle Sheehan.

Survivors include two sons, Dean Allan Epley and wife Julie, and Bobby Gene Epley; a daughter, Brenda Hanna and husband William, all of Morganton; a sister, Betty Sue Clark and husband Roger of Jonas Ridge; three grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Rev. Eileen Myers officiating. Interment will follow at Lake James Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
