Douglas "Doug" Earl Way

Douglas “Doug” Earl Way age, 99, a 50 year resident of Morristown, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Heritage Center. Doug was born January 10, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to Herman and Ethel Way. He grew up from age 9 in Washington DC and graduated from Roosevelt High with additional schooling in furniture design. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Doug joined the US Navy. He participated in the D-Day Invasion and numerous operations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India onboard LST209. Doug was proud of his helmsmanship and carpentry skills.

Doug married Charlotte, the love of his life, in 1949. He was the Head Designer for several commercial fixture companies producing church pews and alters, as well as, bank counters and furnishings. He joined Shelby Williams as Head of Quality Control and Design in 1967. Upon retirement in 1986, he and Charlotte spent many days on Cherokee Lake onboard their houseboat built by Doug. He spent many winters building detailed models of naval warships and an intricate model railroad layout. Doug had a keen eye for detail. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Preceding Doug in death was his wife, Charlotte Stallings Way; parents, Herman and Ethel Way; and sisters, Marion Simpson and Dorothy Duncan. Survivors include his brothers, John E and Frank D Way; sisters, Pauline Noble and Beatrice Madill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Entombment service will be held in Hamblen Memory Gardens on Friday, April 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Williams officiating. Due to Covid-19, the number of attendees will be set at 10 people.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund.
