

John Leonard Cook, age 83, of Whitesburg, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 20, 2019 after an extended illness. He was born in Claiborne County and was a member of Three Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from General Electric. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mack and Dovie Cook; brothers, Ray, Herbert, Clarence and Lowell Cook; and granddaughter, Brennan Smith.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Johnson Cook; son, David (Dana) Cook; daughters, Lynette (Russ) Smith Patterson, Leigh Ann (Billy) Westmoreland; grandchildren, Bryar Smith, Madisson Westmoreland, Jace Smith, Will Westmoreland, Griffin Patterson; great-granddaughter, Carter Grace Green; brothers, Fred (Betty), Carl, James Russell (Roma Dell) and Bert Cook; sisters, Ella (Oliver) Boldin, Bubbis Ruth Cook, Anna Mae (Randy) Widner; and close to 100 nieces, nephews and close relatives.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Stanley Carpenter and Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Family and friends will meet in Hamblen Memory Gardens on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 1:45 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #5266.
