Patricia grew up on Chesnut Mountain in Candler, North Carolina—a mountain girl from day one—spending her early years climbing trees and savoring the fruits and berries they offered. Her roots were also firmly planted in Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler, North Carolina, where faith and community helped shape the life she would go on to live.
A devoted worker, Pat served as a Walmart cashier for 16 years, retiring in 2008. Through the constancy of her work and the care she showed in everyday moments, she left a mark that was felt in simple kindnesses and a willingness to help wherever help was needed.
Preceding her in death are her parents: Herman E. and Willie Arrington Lowe; son: William Gary "Bobby" Sams; siblings: William Gary Lowe, Carolyn Stroupe, Herman E. Lowe, Jr., Sandra Kelley, and Shirley Whitt. Nephew: Mike Whitt. Husbands: Jimmy Sams and Steve Devlin and dear friend: Lucille Long.
Above all, Patricia’s children were the most important things to her. Her love was steady and protective, and her presence carried the kind of reassurance that families lean on for a lifetime.
She is survived by her children, Linda Sams Morgan (Scott), Diane Ensley (Joey), and Mike Sams (Tammy) along with Steve (Jennifer) Chaney of Canton, NC, whom she loved like a son. Brother: Kenneth Lowe of New Port Richey, Florida; and sister: Judy Lowe of Hazlewood, North Carolina. Grandchildren: Amanda Livingston (Gary), Brandy Herndon (Ray), Scott Burke (Jennifer), Chris York (Melissa), Dusty Sams, Lacy Sams, and Cory Sams; and her great-grandchildren, Jimmy Morgan, Harley Dalton, Kaelyn Morgan, Chloe Riddle, Rylee Burke, Lanna Burke and Khyla Burke and Lucas York. Many nieces and nephews. Special friend: May Antrican and by her beloved cats, Thomas and Festus.
Graveside services will be held on July 7, 2026, which would have been her 87th birthday, at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery at 4:00 PM with Deacon Harold Whitt, brother-in-law, as well as Deacon Tim Davis officiating.
You will always be Linda’s "sunshine". Our greatest gift came from God, we call her ‘Mama.’”
