VIRGINIA JO GAMMON, age 79, of Whitesburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Laughlin Healthcare Center. She was a teacher at Whitesburg School for forty two years. She was a member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church and Eastern Star OES 429, where she had held all local offices and attended the Grand Chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma McBride Thompson and a nephew Richard William Thompson.
Her survivors include: Brother, J.R. Thompson, his daughter, Tammie (Mike) Thompson Lowry and family, Loren and James Lowry and a nephew, Doug Thompson. Brother, Dallas (Kathryn) Thompson and his daughter, Alice (Glenn) Brooks and family, Casey McLain, Sammie Jo Brooks, Gema Brooks and Colten McLain.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Meyers and Rev. Richard Long will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday at Stubblefields. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations maybe made to Whitesburg School or Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Stubblefield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
