Herman J. Reed

Mr. Reed was born in Iota and lived most of his life in Moss Bluff. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. He worked as a carpenter building homes and custom cabinetry. Mr. Reed was an avid deer hunter, loved the outdoors and coaching Dixie Youth Baseball. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Reed of Moss Bluff; son, Murray Reed and wife Meg of Moss Bluff; daughters, Tonya Simmons and husband Stephen of Slidell, LA and Vanessa Strickland of Moss Bluff; brothers, Ludren Reed and wife Mary of Moss Bluff and Curtis Istre and wife Debra of Topsy, LA; grandchildren, Blake and Lexie Reed, Alexandra Dyson, Ethan Strickland, and Ian Strickland. He is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Istre, and brother, Reggie Reed. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his loving caregiver, Chris Royal.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will be at Creel Memorial Gardens in Bel, LA. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary said at 7 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff and will continue at 8 a.m. on Monday until the time of service.
