

Robert A. Taylor was born June 28, 1924 to Jim and Genevieve Taylor in Trenton, MI. He was the last surviving member of a family of 4 boys and 1 girl, until his passing on Thursday, June 14, 2012.
In Sept. 1944 he met and married his first wife Jean Pratt. He is survived by their daughters, Bobby Jean Krager of Elko, NV., Lynn McWhorter of Wilbur, WA., and Sandra Taylor of Wapato WA. Mr. Taylor is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter all from his union with Jean Pratt.
In 1983, Jean passed and he moved to LA to be near his brother where he met and married his present wife, Lila Taylor, of almost 30 years. From this union he is survived by his step-children, Dwight Jr. Landry and wife Melanie, Kimberly Landry and Lyle Landry; 7 step-grandchildren; and 3 step great grandchildren.
Mr. Taylor joined the Navy in 1943 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Drew in the Pacific during WWII. He transferred to the U.S.A.F. when it was formed in 1951 and he retired in 1966 with over 22 years of distinguished military service. He was also president of the American Legion in Kettle Falls, WA. in the 70’s.
He was an accomplished musician by age 9, and played in the “BIG BANDS”, during the 40’s and 50’s. He was a member of several other bands and could play a variety of instruments. He specialized in the piano and organ, and could make an organ sing entertaining family and friends.
After his retirement from the military, he owned and operated several of his own businesses, including a music store and a combined service station/restaurant. He went to school at age 80 to learn how to make golf clubs and even made a set for one of his daughters. He was involved in many activities. He enjoyed family gatherings and had the most incredible hearty laughter. He was a “SUPER GREAT” dad, husband and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Robert Kratzer will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 pm. until 9 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles and will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday.
