

David was born in Muncie on Friday, December 21, 1945, to Leon “Bill” and Mary Gladys (Bates) McElfresh.
David attended Muncie Southside and Central high schools, graduating in 1963. He worked his entire career at Delco Battery. He also co-owned a chrome plating shop with his brother.
David was raised Southern Baptist and enjoyed gospel music. He took great pride in remodeling homes. David perfected the art of baking sheet cakes and sharing them with others. He had a generous heart. David was a member of Delaware Lodge #46 F &AM.
His parents and his wife of almost fifty-two years, Sheryl D. (Fletcher) McElfresh, preceded him in death.
David is survived by his four loving children, Troy (Lisa) McElfresh, Tina (Kent) Havens, Tara (Joel) Freehill, and Tannon (Misty) McElfresh. He was known as Papaman to all of his grandchildren, Thor (Amanda) McElfresh, Tyeson McElfresh, Travin (Andrea) McElfresh, Trevor Havens, Taylor (Michael) Robbins, Tori (Jamie) McGraw, Tarcin (Kristin) Freehill, Travis (Cassandra) Freehill, Trysten Freehill, Treyce Freehill, Will McElfresh, Kylie Reeves, and twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Joyce) McElfresh; sister-in-law, Terri Osteen; his girlfriend, Joan Reynolds; extended family and friends and a special grand dog, Lucy.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Larry Waters officiating. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted Monday at the funeral home following the funeral service. Private family burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
