His family moved to Muncie in 1935, and he graduated from Muncie Central in 1942. At 17 years old he started working at Durham Manufacturing, was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 and served from 1943-1946 during WWII (1 1/2 years of that time spent in Europe). After he returned from the war he married Charis E. (Bryan) Owen, who proceeded him in death.
During the time he was employed at Durham Manufacturing he met Louise Wood Fullhart, a widow with four small children. They married in Albany in 1951, the beginning of a wonderful journey in life.
Don continued his career at Borg Warner Manufacturing in Muncie where he retired after 30 years in 1962. He was a member of Albany Methodist Church and a member of more than 50 years at High Street Methodist Church. He was also a member of Muncie Masonic Lodge #433 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, serving both for more than 50 years.
Don and Louise had 65 wonderful years together until her death in 2016. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Colorado, Florida, Texas, and Mexico, just to name a few. They especially enjoyed going on cruises. Don and Louise’s home was always open to friends and family.
