

by family. He was born September 10, 1934, the son of Joseph and Alberta Sheridan.
George was a graduate of Muncie Central High School, and went on to attend Ball State
University. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann (Gibson) Sheridan and together they
had four children. He was a member of the Muncie Visitors Bureau, the United States Karate
Association, Southside Businessmen Association, the Roller Skating Association, and the
Muncie Masons Lodge #046. George was known as a jack of all trades, he was a master
electrician, plumber, architectural engineer, and a business owner. In his free time, George
enjoyed going boating and water skiing on Lake Cumberland, dancing, hunting, roller skating,
martial arts, playing softball, coaching and playing hockey, and most of all, George loved
spending time with his family.
“Gibson’s Arena” has been synonymous for many of the Gibson/Sheridan families businesses, and has been a historical family legacy for over 84 years in Muncie, Indiana. From Selling blocks of Ice, to Ice Cream, a Green House, to Ice and Roller Skating. George and Ann Sheridan purchased the rink in 1967 from Ann’s father Earl Gibson and ran the business for 52 years which is still in operation by family members.
It was often said that George and Ann Sheridan raised, and baby sat most of east central Indiana and were the providers of joy, happiness, adventures, excitement, and lifetime memories for thousands.
George is survived by his four children, Beth Griffith (Mark), Becky Hazelbaker (Phil), George
Sheridan Jr (Christie), Tom Sheridan (Jennifer); three grandchildren, Josh Griffith (Lauren),
Danielle Sofiak (Keith), Jeremy Hazelbaker (Deven); six great-grandchildren, Hayden Griffith,
George Henry Griffith, Kolten Sofiak, Kaden Sofiak, Jett Hazelbaker, Beau Hazelbaker; and one
sister, Patricia Gibson.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, Joseph Sheridan and Alberta (Trego) Sheridan; his
wife, Dorothy Ann Sheridan; a grandson, Jason Griffith; and his mother and father- in-law, Earl
and Mildred Gibson.
Calling hours will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Friday, October 25, 2024 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600
West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with
entombment after at Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
