Jacqueline S. Van Dien

Jacqueline Sue Van Dien (Thornhill) passed away peacefully in Muncie, Indiana, on July 2, 2025, at the age of 99. Born in 1926 to Kenneth and Grace “Betty” Thornhill, Jacqueline grew up in Muncie with her brother, KJ Thornhill.

Known as “Jacque,” she cared deeply for her family and faced life with strength and grace. She married Dale Barton Stephens, and together they had three children: the late Jeff Stephens, Dale Stephens, and Cynthia Stinson. Later, Jacqueline found love again and married Jim Van Dien, sharing many happy years together.

Over the decades, Jacqueline lived in Muncie, Indiana; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tampa, Florida; Milford, Michigan; and eventually returned to Muncie, adapting to each new home with resilience. She loved her pets who brought her joy and companionship. She was also blessed with the love, friendship, and support of Marilyn Gooding.

Jacqueline was a grandmother to Scott Stephens, the late Daniel Stephens, Kelly Jo Brickley, Emily Stephens, Benjamin Stephens, David Stephens, Mike Fitzgerald, and Doug Fitzgerald. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Sloane Stephens, Evan Stephens, Stephanie Hale, Stacia Vorhees, Aidan Fitzgerald, Keegan Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald, and Anna Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother KJ Thornhill, husbands Jim VanDien and Dale Barton Stephens, son Jeff, and grandson Daniel.

Jacqueline will be laid to rest at Elm Ridge Memorial Park. No graveside service is planned. Memorial donations may be made to ARF (Animal Rescue Fund) in Muncie.
