Joyce A. Hargis

Joyce A. Hargis, 85, entered into an eternity of holy peace, and profound joy, on May 3, 2026. Joyce spent all her life in Muncie, Indiana. She was the youngest of five. The home where she grew up was where she lived and passed.

On February 19, 1960, she married Oliver Ross Hargis, to whom she had been married for 65 years. Their first kiss was on the front porch of her childhood home and Ross was able to kiss her goodbye in the same spot until he reunites with her in heaven.

A faithful Christian and a lifelong member of the River of Life Church. Joyce participated fully in life with her church family. Joyce liked listening to her favorite Christian music, but most of all, loved being by her husband’s side. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose hearts desire was that her children and grandchildren would know Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her children: Ross DeWayne (Cathy), Roger (Susan), Shayne, and Hollie.

She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Travis (Courtney), Jared (Abby), Ryan (Danielle), Katie, Bryant, Bryson (Whitney), Tristan, and Taylan. Eight great grandchildren: Luke, Colin, Reid, Lincoln, Piper, Cora, Madeline, and Lucy. Also, her niece, Penny (Tom) Davis.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: mother, Ellar (Pearl) and stepfather Howard Petty. Father, Walter Howard. Her four siblings: Margaret Thompson, Juanita Williams, Mary Metz, and Walter Howard (Junior).

Family and friends may gather from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Friday, May 8, 2026, at River of Life Church, 5350 W. Bethel Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A funeral service to honor her life will take place at 1:00 PM at River of Life Church. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
