

Lenard was born November 3, 1927, in Allardt, Tennessee. He served in the United States Army and was deployed to Europe during the World War II post-war period. Upon returning to America, he settled in Muncie, eventually living in Albany for over 70 years.
Lenard worked at Marhoefer Meat Packing Co. and later Ball State University where he was affectionately referred to as the “Bug Man” before retiring. He was active in the Freemasons Anthony Lodge No. 171, Order of the Eastern Star, and Scottish Rite 32nd degree; and Riverview United Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hessie (Cook) Smith. They were married 73 years before her passing. Also preceding in death were a son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Cynthia.
He is survived by son, Jerry; grandchildren, Matthew Smith (Karen) of Burke, Virginia, Jolene Monteilh (Edwin) of Cumming, Georgia, Rachel Seaton (Keith) of Collierville, Tennessee, Adam Smith (Jennifer) of Leo, Indiana; and twelve great-grandchildren: Carter, Noah, and Avery Smith; Devynn, Gavin, and Evan Monteilh; Hallie, Addison, Katelyn Seaton; Isaac, Jordan, and Silas Smith; sister, Lucille Wright of Muncie; and brother, Carson Smith (Shirley) of Hartford City.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304 with Pastor Dewayne Loveless officiating. Private entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park mausoleum.
Family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
