

He was born Saturday, April 9, 1927, in Logan, West Virginia; the son of Wilfred and Erma (Dickey) Brush. Richard moved to Muncie in 1940, after living in Springfield, Ohio; Buchanan, West Virginia; Connersville, Indiana; and Dayton, Ohio. Richard graduated from Burris High School in 1944, and then enlisted in the United States Army. During WW II, he received the Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal in Germany. Richard worked at several companies before his retirement in 2005 from his company, Brush Drafting. Richard was a member of the Order of the Masonic Lodge #433, where he earned his Master Mason Degree in 1956. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge. Richard was an avid reader and a coin and stamp collector. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years and was a golf enthusiast throughout his adult life. Richard was President of Westminster Village Residents Association for four years ending in 2017.
Survivors include his two daughters, Rebecca (partner Jim Gossett) Bray, Terri (husband Howard) Fuhrman; two step-sons, Brad McDonald, and Marty McDonald; two grandchildren, Leslie Shanafelt, and Michael Shanafelt; one great granddaughter, Zia Morris.
He was preceded in death by wife, Phyllis McDonald; and his daughter, Brenda Brush.
Services to celebrate the life of Richard will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2018, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. Entombment will be at a later date at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Family and friends may call at Elm Ridge Funeral Home to celebrate the life of Richard on Monday, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to services.
