Robin L. Slaven, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, loyal friend, and gifted musician, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Born on August 1, 1956, to the late Robinson (R.C.) and Juanita Slaven.
Robin lived a life free-spiritedly defined by humility and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of kindness, musical creativity, and generosity will live on.
Robin is survived by his cherished wife, Dolores “DeDe” Digman Slaven; his four sons, Shane (Missy) Slaven, Jeremy Tydge (Michelle) Slaven, Wesley Slaven, and Jakob Slaven; his stepdaughter Jillianne Davis, and his grandchildren, Kameron (Maddie) Slaven, Kaleb Slaven, and Olivia Slaven. He is also survived by his sisters, Carrie Case, Jessie Francine (Willa Dean) Jones, and Fawn Shirley, along with a very special care-giver Ashley Dunn, nieces, nephews, cousins and bandmates. In addition to his parents, Robin was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Slaven and Gene Pierce, and his brother-in-law, Darrell Case.
Robin was humble, he never chased fame or fortune, but enjoyed giving his time and talent to special benefits, local charities and supporting those in need.
He had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met, from life-long friends to strangers in the grocery aisle, he welcomed everyone with his beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and an open heart. On stage, he was electric, his guitar playing was straight fire, tearing through riffs with a skill so raw it grabbed you as a fan, making every chord feel like it was played for you.
Beyond his musical talent, Robin had a love for many things. He found joy in cooking, gardening, and exploring nature, especially while traveling with DeDe to discover many unique places, landmarks and breathtaking scenery. He was a proud supporter of his sons and grandchildren, attending their games and events. Always the first to show up at the tailgate and the last to leave, his ornery sense of humor made every gathering brighter.
In remembering Robin, we celebrate a man who lived life to the fullest, loved deeply, and gave freely. His spirit lives on in the songs he wrote, the lives he touched, and the love he planted in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of Robin’s life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Union Chapel, 4622 Broadway, Muncie, IN 47303, in the Worship Center (Building #3). Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests any donations go toward his young son’s future needs. Contributions can be made to Jakob Slaven, Northwest Bank, account number 5521011683.
