Sonja K. Wolfe, age 85, departed this world on the morning of September 14, 2025, and is now residing in the heavenly realms where Jesus prepared a place for her. Although Jay County, IN was her birthplace, she grew up in Muncie, IN moving to Anderson with her husband, John, and their two children in 1964.
Graduating from Ball State University, she taught at the elementary level at both Koinonia and Liberty Christian Schools. She touched the lives of hundreds of children and their parents while living out God’s call on her life. She boldly stepped forward when God led her to serve as the administrator at Koinonia School. After retiring from teaching, Sonja dedicated her time to volunteering both inside and outside of the church. She found pleasure in the time she spent serving at Operation Love and the food bank.
She loved being outdoors and enjoyed walking, hiking, working in her flower garden, bicycling, and traveling. She liked to read, greatly enjoyed God’s creation, found pleasure being with friends, and treasured time with her family. She received immense joy laughing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was thankful to be part of God’s family and loved Jesus and her church community. Her life was enriched when she took part in several mission trips and witnessed God’s power.
Survivors include her children: John A. Wolfe and Tammy Wolfe; grandchildren: Jennie Wolfe and Michael (Lauren) Wolfe; great-grandchildren: Collin Newman, Kai Newman, Ava Gibson, Mia Wolfe, and Cole Wolfe; daughter-in-law, Kim Wolfe; and special friend, Karl Graddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Martha Bailey, parents-in-law, Howard and Inez Wolfe, brothers Larry, Dewey and Randy Bailey, sister, Shirley Durnal, and her beloved husband of 45 years, John E. Wolfe.
Services will be held at Elm Ridge Funeral Home in Muncie, IN on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Public visitation will take place preceding the funeral between the hours of 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Sonja has asked that we wear something bright and colorful and celebrate with her in her graduation.
