Not long ago Bill commented to his daughter, Jeanette; “I awake every morning and say, ‘Good morning, God, good morning, Jesus, good morning, Holy Spirit;’ and then I pray for family members throughout the day.” For years he kept where he could always read it, a plaque which featured Lamentations 3:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.”
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Coatney Girdler, and his sisters and brothers; Lena McPheron, Henry Girdler, Ed Girdler, Nina Blevins, Nora Neikirk, Oma Pence, and Roy Girdler.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Girdler to whom he was married on October 5, 1957, in Somerset. Truly blessed in their almost 68 years together, they have three daughters; Rebecca Lynn Stonecypher and her husband Mike, Jeanette Ann Bousman and her husband, Keith, and Deborah Kay Girdler.
They in turn have seven grandchildren; Jeremy Bousman and his wife Erin, Adam Bousman, Andrew Bousman and his wife, Mandy, Eric Bousman and his wife, Whitney, Michael Bousman, Rachel Anderson and her husband, Luke, John David Stonecypher and his wife Alison. They are also blessed with fourteen great grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Pulaski County High School, Somerset, Kentucky in 1952. He also graduated from Clear Creek Baptist Bible School in 1965. He served in the United States Navy between 1953-57. He pastored seven Southern Baptist Churches in Kentucky and Indiana. He worked at Marsh Warehouse from 1971-1994.
While his family will greatly miss His godly influence, his deep and constant love for each of them, and the humorous twinkle in his eyes as he often teased them; they also rejoice with him as he enters the blessed presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gideons International.
