Lourdes Fuentes Lam

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lourdes Fuentes Lam, who departed from this world on February 9, 2024, at the age of 76. Lourdes leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that touched countless lives.

Born on December 7, 1947, in Iloilo, Philippines, to Marrieta “Marie” Fuentes Melgar and Toribio Fuentes, Lourdes was the guiding light of her family, the eldest among seven siblings. Her journey of selflessness and service began early in life, culminating in a career as a dedicated registered nurse.

After relocating to Manila during high school, Lourdes pursued her passion for nursing, earning her degree from St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing. In 1967, driven by the desire to forge a better future for her family following the loss of her father, she embarked on a courageous journey to the United States. Her resilience and determination not only shaped her own path but paved the way for her loved ones to follow suit in the years to come.

In the vibrant city of Philadelphia, Lourdes's caring nature blossomed as she worked tirelessly as a visiting nurse. It was here that she crossed paths with Simon Lam, the love of her life. United in love and faith, they exchanged vows on December 25, 1971, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Blessed with three children—Yvonne, Monica, and Raymond—their union was the epitome of devotion and unity.

Lourdes and Simon shared a profound faith as founding members of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Covenant Community (BLD) in Phoenix, AZ, where their spiritual bond flourished. Upon retiring in 2014, they embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Murrieta, California, to nurture their grandchildren and cherish precious moments with Lourdes's extended family.

Lourdes's memory will forever be cherished by her beloved husband and children, adoring grandchildren, dear siblings and cousins, and a multitude of nieces and nephews whose lives she enriched with her kindness and warmth. As we bid farewell to our cherished matriarch, let us find solace in the countless memories she bestowed upon us, and let her spirit of love and generosity continue to inspire us all.
