Born on May 10, 1940, in Gilmer, TX, Bernard lived a life filled with love, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Bernard studied at the University of Arkansas and graduated from Hendrix College in 1963 with a BBA in Business. He was a man of many talents and passions. A long-standing member of the New Hope Congregational Methodist Church, he found joy in serving on the cook team, serving on the board, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was also a founding member and an active member of the Nacogdoches Antique Auto Club, where he shared his love for classic automobiles with fellow enthusiasts.
In 1970, Bernard and his family moved to Nacogdoches, where he purchased Pool Hardware/Craft Boutique, now known as Gifts and Greeks. He later worked for over 20 years at Bright Coop Co., a job that took him all over the world. He never tired of telling stories about his travels, sharing his experiences with humor and enthusiasm.
A natural-born tinkerer, Bernard could fix almost anything. Whether working on cars, collecting unique treasures, or playing his beloved stringed instruments, he had an unmatched curiosity and creative spirit. He had a deep love for music, a passion he carried throughout his life.
Above all, Bernard cherished his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia Jean Livingston (Pat), his daughters Melissa Ann Huffty (Missy) and her husband Drew Huffty, and Johanna Lyn Livingston. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher Andrew Huffty, Merridith Nicole Huffty Abernathy, Kyra Lynn Blackmon, and Lucy Rose Blackmon, and a doting great-grandfather to Raine Andrew Abernathy, Isaac Otto Abernathy, and Benjamin Wesley Huffty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Onice W. Livingston and Otto Bernard Livingston Sr. (Rat), and his daughter, Baby Girl Livingston (1975).
Bernard was known for his warmth, generosity, and storytelling. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He loved gathering with his buddies for lunch whenever he was able, sharing laughter and camaraderie. As a teacher, creator, provider, and engineer at heart, he left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A celebration of Bernard’s life will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Cason Monk Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, Texas. Visitation will take place from 1 PM to 2 PM, followed by a Celebration Service at 2 PM Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Cason Monk Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, Texas.
