Claudene, the daughter of the late Minnie and Claude Crews, was born January 31, 1916, in Colmesneil, Texas, and graduated from high school there. She married a tall, handsome basketball star of Colmesneil High School named C.W. Pool. They moved near Woodville where Wendell and Charles were born. They moved to Nacogdoches in 1943 where C.W. was a partner with his brother in Pool-Perkins Drug Store located on the downtown square. A few years after living in Groesbeck, Texas, they moved back to Nacogdoches in 1958, once again being a part of Pool’s Pharmacy at the original location on the square.
Claudene worked for a time in the Nacogdoches County Clerk’s office but her joy was spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren remember many cookies at Mammaw’s house.
Fredonia Hill Baptist Church was an important part of her life. She has served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of a pulpit committee. She was former member of Pines Garden Club and Quest Sewing Club.
She is survived by her sons, Wendell Pool and wife Nina of Mexia and Charles Pool and wife Rose Ann of Nacogdoches. She is also survived by grandsons, Ed Pool and wife Melissa of Nacogdoches and Chris Pool and wife April of Jasper. Granddaughters are Shannon Stiefel and husband Keith of Tyler and Amy Annett and husband Mark of Tyler. She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Pool; her parents, Minnie and Claude Crews; two brothers, Harley and Ray; and an infant sister, Mildred.
