Dee Strickland Jones

He joined the U.S. Army Infantry, Wolf Pack, which was the mainland combat force of the United States Army, October 8, 1941. He was stationed in France, Germany, and Belgium and was honorably discharged July 15, 1945. He dedicated his life to his Lord as a 9 year old, in 1927.

He married his wife of 58 years, Mildred Johnson on April 1, 1943. They subsequently moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked for Texaco for 33 years. He and Mildred were very active at First Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Tx. where they made many life long friends. Dee was an active deacon, and taught 7th grade boys Sunday School for many years, which he loved.

Dee and Mildred moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in October, 1990. He volunteered at Medical Center Hospital Cancer Center for 11 years. They were members of First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches, Texas from 1992 to present. He was also a 50 year Mason. Mildred passed away April 19, 2001, and Dee then married Barbara Sitton in 2002. They were married until her death in 2012.

Dee was preceded in death by wives Mildred and Barbara; son, Timothy Wayne Jones; and grandson, Jeremiah Jones.

He is survived by son Ken Jones and wife Annis; grandchildren, Clay and Angela Jones, Casey and Jenny Jones; great-grandchildren, Mason and fiancé, Jordan Bass, Morgan, Nathan, Noah and Luke Jones, all of Nacogdoches; deceased son, Tim Jones; grandchildren, Ryan Jones of Houston, Jessica Jones Harless and Adam Harless of New Orleans; great-grandchildren, Knox Strickland Harless and Makenzie Jones of Bridge City; his daughter, Vickie Thompson and husband Jim; grandchildren, Seth Thompson and wife Sarah, Aaron Thompson, Garrett Thompson and wife Erika; great-grandchildren, Jake, Grace Ann, Alexis and Lorelei Thompson, all of Waco.

Dee was an avid hunter, fisherman and lover of the outdoors. He also loved Southern cooking, which was Mildred’s specialty, and most of all, Dee loved a “good cup of coffee”. He was a champion 42 player, and took his game playing very seriously.

He loved his family, and his Country, and was a blessing to those he met. Most of all he loved the Lord with all his heart and it was his desire in life to share the Gospel with people he met. John 3:16 was his favorite verse.

The family would like to thank the loving staff of The Arbor in Nacogdoches. His beloved care givers, Belinda Wallace, Stacey Garrett, Elizabeth Ann Shepard, Kashece (Ty) Wallace, Nikki Duckett and Sharon Hunt for their love and devotion to Dee.

We would especially like to thank Judge Jack Sinz for his loyal friendship and the standing checker games with Dee every Tuesday morning.

Due to current circumstances, there will be small family graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park.
