

Mrs. Helen Louise (Brooks) Butler, age 79, passed away on April 19, 2014 at her residence in Etoile, Texas. She was born on November 14, 1934 in Ft Smith, Arkansas to parents, Clyne Whitten Brooks and Florene Helen Garrett Brooks.
A funeral service will be conducted in Ft. Smith, Arkansas at the Ocker- Putman Funeral Home on Friday, April 25 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Robert Berry will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Smith National Cemetery.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Merle A. Butler; brother-in-law, Oscar Meadows and son-in-law, George A. Morrison lll.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Rose Morrison of Nacogdoches, Carrie Swann and husband, Ken of Etoile, Laurie Hendricks and husband, Ron of Nacogdoches; sister, Nancy Meadows of West Palm Bay, Florida; brother, Gary Brooks and wife Rita of Norman, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a graduate of Fort Smith High School. She served as secretary and church organist for Bluff Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith Arkansas from 1965-1972. She was married to Merle A. Butler on December 24, 1953. After moving to Nacogdoches, she became the church pianist for Memorial Baptist Church from 1990-2010 and was the administrative secretary for the Boys and Girls Club until 2010. Helen loved to demonstrate her love for her girls by sewing for them. She also loved and rescued many stray animals from her neighborhood. She had a big heart to take care of those who needed help. Her church was very important to her as organist and secretary but she also demonstrated the love she had for the Lord by sharing her belief with others and walking out her faith. She was an inspirational woman and especially loved her daughters.
