

James Blaine Moore III (Jim) passed away on February 13, 2025. He was born, October 21, 1942, in Kilgore, TX to James Blaine Moore Jr. and Martha Leath Moore. Jim attended school in Lufkin, TX from 3rd – 11th grades. He graduated from La Porte High School in La Porte, TX in 1960 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin with Honors in 1964.
After college, he was married to his high school sweetheart for 28 years. Jim became a history teacher in La Porte and Corpus Christi. Then, he joined VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) where he taught in an Indian tribe in Oklahoma. Jim was most proud of his years served with VISTA. After returning to Texas, he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Houston.
He was an avid reader, genealogical and history enthusiast, artist, world traveler, and knowledgeable Buddhist. There was never a book, political topic or religious value he would not challenge.
After his retirement, he moved back to East Texas and continued his volunteer work with the Lamp-Lite Theatre in Nacogdoches. He spent his final years in San Augustine, and Lufkin at Southland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.
Jim is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Harry Faulkner of Lufkin, TX; His brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Elizabeth Moore of Austin, TX; Niece, Julie Faulkner of Hudson, TX; nephews, Kevin Faulkner (Kelly) of Lorena, TX, Russell Moore of Cushing, TX, and Paul Moore of Austin, TX; great- nephews, John Southern and Jameson Southern of Hudson, TX.
Predeceased by his parents, companion, Renee Maufroid of Marcq-en-Baroeul, France, his grandparents and many other fond relatives.
Jim’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Southland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and Gentiva Hospice for their devotion to his care over the last few years.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
