Junior W. Rhodes was born on October 14th, 1927 and died peacefully at the age of 92 on July 8th, 2020 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born in Chireno, Texas to Columbus and Roxie Rhodes but Nacogdoches was his home. He enlisted with the Army for three tours where he worked as a medical technician in Osaka Honshu, Japan. His tours were between WWII and the Korean War, 1945-1950. Junior Rhodes was married to Mary Fay Crawford on October 21, 1947 in San Augustine, Texas. They had a loving marriage until her death in 1972. Junior and Fay had three children who loved them very much. Junior was blessed with a second loving marriage to Mary Bass from 1975 until her death in December 2013. Junior had the pleasure of working with NIBCO from 1950 until his retirement in 1996. In his younger years, Junior loved fishing and riding in his boat on Lake Sam Rayburn.
He loved being with his family and is survived by his three children, their spouses and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are as follows: Linda Rhodes Clifton and husband David Clifton of Dallas Texas, James W. Rhodes and wife Trisha Nations Rhodes of Nacogdoches and Karen Rhodes Williams and husband Randy Williams of Longview, Texas. His grandchildren and their spouses are April Larremore, Wednesday and Jon Turbeville, Autumn Hamm and her late husband Mitchell Hamm, Jonathan and Melody Rhodes, Marshall and Kristen Rhodes, Alison Williams, Valerie and Kevin Becker, Ryan and Kristen Williams. Junior is also survived by great grandchildren Madison and Holden Moreland, Abby Larremore, Alexis, Kylie and Gerrick Turbeville, Braeden and Hallie Hamm, Liam and Hailey Rhodes, Addison Rhodes, Barron, Vera and Beau Becker. A family graveside service will be held in Chireno, Texas where he will be laid to rest next to his late wife Fay Rhodes.
From his family, we say thank you to the ER and IMC staff at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Your care for our father was excellent and your compassion could not have been greater. For both of these we will be forever thankful. To Garrison Nursing Home we give a very special thank you to all of their staff for being our father's second family. He loved you all and truly considered you his friends. You were always available and always compassionate. Your residents are very fortunate. Our family will forever be thankful for each one of you.
For our father we say to him, rest in peace, we are so blessed to have had you as our father/Papa.
Graveside Services will be held, 10:00AM, Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Lower Chireno Cemetery.
