Leo honorably served in the United States Army where he fought for his country in World War II. After returning home from the war, Leo hauled pulp wood with his father and then began working for Pilgrim’s Pride in Lufkin, Texas. Mr. Acosta was a dedicated worker to his employer of 50 years and one day. After his retirement at the age of 85, Leo spent quality time with his wife Earline and treasured every moment with her. He enjoyed tending to his cows, farming, gardening and spending time with his family. He was good to all, his door was always open, and he insisted that everyone eat. He was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved God, Jesus, his family, his country and his John Deere tractor. He loved to play chicken foot and 42 but his favorite part of the game was to see if anyone could catch him cheating. Leo was a hard-working, family man and a super role model for all to follow and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, David “Cobb” Acosta; great-grandson, Jonathan James “JJ” Buster; brother, Lawrence Acosta; sisters, Nora Garcia, Lorene Hogue, Rosa Mae Martinez, Margaret Rogers, and Ophelia Scarborough.
Leo is survived by his wife of 68 years, Earline Acosta; sons, Johnny Louis Acosta and wife, Betty, of Nacogdoches, Texas, Jerry Lee Acosta and wife, Terri, of Peoria, Arizona; daughters, Evelyn Gaye Standridge and husband, Kenny, of Pollok, Texas, Regina Collins and husband, Jacky, of Nacogdoches, TX, Sherry Bizzell and husband, Mike Nichols of Port Lavaca, Texas and Anita Scott, and husband, Bo, of Nacogdoches, Texas; sister, Evie Keller of Pearland, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a large host of family friends, and a war buddy, John Arroyo.
The Acosta Family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to Bethany Home Health, Ms. Rhonda Henry, Pastor Lionel Whitaker, Mr. Calvin Davis, Andrea Acosta and Mike Lucio for their special care and support.
