Margie Lee Johnson was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on November 23, 1927 to TJ and Connie Smith and passed from this life on September 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. Margie is survived by her two sons, Vernon and wife Michele, of Nacogdoches, Texas and Wilbur and wife Peggy of Houston, Texas, 5 grandchildren – Tammie Johnson, Greg Johnson and wife Dee, Mike Johnson and wife Mary, Mark Johnson and wife Karen, and Talisha Johnson, 11 great granddaughters and 15 great, great grandchildren and 1 brother, Raymond Smith, Sister-in-law Louise Rogers and husband Harold and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Margie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, W. V., her parents, 4 brothers - Tommy, James, Edward, G. W. and 1 sister – Barbara.
W. V. and Margie resided in Houston for a number of years, where she worked as a homemaker. They attended Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. In 1966, they relocated to the Nacogdoches area and opened a concrete business, where Margie was the Office Manager and Bookkeeper. They were members of the Pentecostal Church in Nacogdoches. W.V. and Margie purchased the old Johnson homestead and farm and lived there raising cattle and gardening from 1966 to the day of Margie’s departure from this life.
Family was always of utmost importance to Margie. This was exhibited by the many, many meals with family around her dinner table. Margie was a tremendous homemaker and excellent cook. Her speciality was chicken and dumplings. At any social gathering, everyone had to have her chicken and dumplings. Reunions and church gatherings will never be the same now. Margie also loved to hunt and fish and other outdoor activities. She really enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends.
Margie loved the Lord with all her heart, and her life was always centered around the Church. She & W. V. were instrumental in the work of numerous Churches in Houston and the Nacogdoches area. If there were any projects or activities at their church, she and W. V. were always involved.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
The family will receive friends, Friday, September 24, 2021, from 12 Noon until 2:00PM, Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. A funeral service will follow starting at 2:00PM, interment will follow at Eden Cemetery, Nacogdoches County.
