A lifelong resident of the area, Mary graduated from Nacogdoches High School. She then graduated from Stephen F. Austin with her Bachelor’s Degree. She was employed by the school in different capacities for over 37 years, mainly serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts.
Mary was a social lady who loved to travel. She made many friends in her time in Nacogdoches as a member of several organizations including Newcomers & Friends, University Women’s Club, and Nacogdoches Retired Teacher’s Association. She was also a long-time member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, C.C. Dillen; and sister, Barbara Nell Dillen Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Akin; granddaughter, Ashley Akin; brother, Charles Dillen and wife Bess; and several other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel officiated by Dr. Jeff McDonald. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Long Branch Cemetery in Long Branch, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches.
