

She was born March 2, 1924, and had been a longtime area resident and attended Libby Church of Christ. She was a 1941 graduate of Nacogdoches High School. Shortly after graduation she traveled to California and was married to Travis James “Sport” Burt on Sept. 14, 1942, in El Monte, California.
Early years found Mrs. Burt working with the family farming operation before she began working in the Martinsville School cafeteria. She later became an LVN and her career as a nurse found her working at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, Lufkin State School, and Rock Haven Nursing Center before retirement.
Mrs. Burt was preceded in death by her husband, Travis James "Sport" Burt, on October 14, 1999; daughter and son-in-law, Liska Faye and James A. Fancher; parents, Floyd and Pearl (Linthicum) Fears; and brothers, Oliver Fears, Warner Fears, and Louis Fears.
Her survivors include her son, Robert (Bob) Burt and wife Peggy of Garrison; a sister, Grace Cornelius of Katy; grandchildren, Melissa Williamson and husband Johnny, Shane Elliott, Tammy Partin and husband Carl, Angie Keel and husband Randy, Crystal Prihoda and husband Stephen, John Mathews, and Steve Mathews and wife Tracey; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Cason Monk-Metcalf's Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas. Officiating will be Bro. Shannon "Shak" Arrington.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the chapel.
