Evelyn, also known as “Red” because of her beautiful auburn hair, was a lifelong resident of Nashua. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1941. She went on to St. Joseph Nursing School and became a registered nurse. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 35 years. She was “House Supervisor” for 26 of those years. It was there that she established lifelong friendships with other nurses and they met once a month for lunch for many years, even after her retirement. Evelyn was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Nashua.
Evelyn’s family was very important to her. She loved having the entire family over every weekend for a good old fashioned Sunday dinner, followed by board games and her special “drink of the day”. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were so special to her and she absolutely loved being around them. She was an avid Boston sports fan. She and her late husband Wilfred, the love of her life, enjoyed many years together. They enjoyed some time traveling with close friends and family. They lived life to the fullest with much joy and laughter

Evelyn is survived by her four sons, William Vermette and his wife Robin of Hooksett, Gerard Vermette and his wife Roxanne of Nashua, Michael Vermette and his wife Sandra Sheppard of Hudson, and Mark Vermette and his wife Donna of Nashua. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea Pease, Megan Vermette, Christopher Vermette, Ryan Vermette, Kylie Vermette and her great grandson Joseph Pease, two sisters-in-law, Blanche Vermette and Doris Lavoie, her niece Cathy LeBlanc as well as several nieces and nephews and her very dear friends Lorraine Dionne and Hanna Morris. Also, her grand-dog Gracie, who was always by her side keeping her company.
Evelyn Was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Wilfred Vermette in 1998 and four sisters, Dorothy Shea, Lillian Shea, Lucille Clemons, and Florence Brickey.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley St. Nashua. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 as 9:30AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 29 Spring St. Nashua. Burial will immediately follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hudson.
