Viola Jean Leonard

In loving memory of Viola “Vi”Jean Leonard (Gareis), 91, of Lake Placid, Florida (formerly of West Canaan, New Hampshire), who passed on Oct 28, 2025. Born on September 12, 1934 in Brockton, Massachusetts, Vi was the youngest of three daughters of Frederick (Fritz) and Hazel Gareis (Ward).

In her personal life, Vi shared a 67 year devoted marriage with her husband, Earl Leonard, until his passing in September 2023. She took pride in being a loving mother, wife and homemaker; and spent many years employed by Timken Federal Credit Union.

She found enjoyment in many activities such as morning walks, swimming, reading, snowmobiling, camping and participating and volunteering in community activities. Vi lived a fulfilling life, with memorable times to include the wonderful travel adventures she shared with her husband throughout their retirement years.

Those who knew Vi will remember her caring heart, compassion and her warm laughter; and her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Her life was rich with love, and her memory will be forever cherished and treasured with endless gratitude and love.

Vi is survived by her daughter Debbi Colby, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Leonard; daughter, Gail Leonard; son-in-law Russell Colby, Jr.; and two sisters Hazel Miller and Emma Sayce.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
